‘Bitter Root’ film adaptation to be directed by Regina King

Regina King, actor turned director of her first feature film, “One Night in Miami, which received critical acclaim last year has been hired to direct “Bitter Root,” a film adaptation of the Harlem Renaissance-set comic book series, created by the comic book creators, David F. Walker, Sanford Green and Chuck Brown who will also EP along with Sean Owolo, Drapetomedia.

As well as directing, King will also produce the movie for Legendary Pictures. Additional producers include the ‘Black Panther’ director, Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian of Proximity Media.

In the 1920s, the Harlem Renaissance is in full swing, and only the Sangerye Family can save New York—and the world—from the supernatural forces threatening to destroy humanity. But the once-great family of monster hunters has been torn apart by tragedies and conflicting moral codes. The Sangerye Family must heal the wounds of the past and move beyond their differences… or sit back and watch a force of unimaginable evil ravage the human race.

Bryan Edward Hill, who has been enlisted to write “Power Rangers” for eOne and Hasbro, is currently rewriting a draft of the screenplay.
