The first full trailer for “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson debuted on Saturday during the DC Fandome virtual fan event. As you will see from the trailer below it reveals a film that is noticeably the darkest manifestation yet of the Caped Crusader.
In a dark, gloomy Gotham City, awash with rain and murkiness, Pattinson’s Batman, attacks his enemies with the violence and sheer brutality that past versions have failed to depict.
Colin Farrell is utterly unrecognisable as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin. Unlike the Danny De Vito characterisation which was not a million miles from that of Burgess Meredith in the Adam West Batman TV series, Farrell’s Penguin is not a cartoon interpretation. Farrell has said he’s in only “five or six” scenes in the film, but his transformation in The Batman is outside the box.
“The Batman” is the first interpretation to showcase Catwoman’s (Zoë Kravitz) introduction to the franchise, the feline character was afterall one of the most important people in Batman’s life.
“I don’t want her to be an idea, you know, I want her to be a real human being in a real situation in a real city trying to survive and reacting to her own pain,” Kravitz said about the character during the Fandome panel with Reeves and Pattinson.
