The Saturn Awards: ‘Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker’ takes home five awards

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror films began back in 1972 under the leadership of Doctor Donald A. Reed. He was a noted film historian who pioneered the idea of honouring and recognizing what we endearingly refer to as “genre entertainment”.

The first award was awarded to Kurt Vonnegut back in 1972, so next year the organization will reach it’s 50 year golden anniversary.

Up until 2020 the Saturn Awards focused films that had a Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror background but this year it stretched it genres further to include Suspense, Thriller, Dark Drama and even Comedy.

This years ceremony was hosted by Bruce Campbell who is a big fan favourite covering the genres in films such as The Living Dead Trilogy and spin offs. He has also had small roles in some the Superhero films and many more.

Two Netflix releases in November you might want to catch

COWBOY BEBOP is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka “cowboys,” all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them.

HELLBOUND a story about otherworldly beings who appear out of nowhere to issue a decree and condemn individuals to hell. These supernatural events cause great mayhem and enable the religious group The New Truth to grow in influence. A few people, however, become suspicious about its activities and begin investigating its involvement in mysterious events.

Unbelievable demonstrations of hell take place in the middle of Seoul right in front of crowds. Mysterious beings condemn individuals to be hellbound, and otherworldly beings appear exactly at the specified time to kill the condemned in a brutal burning. Rising above the utter chaos resulting from these inexplicable supernatural occurrences is the commanding voice of Jung Jinsu, the leader of an up-and-coming religious organization, The New Truth. He claims that only sinners are marked for condemnation and that these occurrences represent divine will to make humans righteous. A group of his followers with blind faith, the Arrowhead, take into their own hands the punishment of those who go against the divine will. The world becomes a living hell.

Min Hyejin, a lawyer, challenges Chairman Jung by claiming the demonstrations of hell to be simply supernatural occurrences. She joins forces with the few who try to protect the hellbound and return the world to the realm of humans, not gods. They go up against the chaos instigated by The New Truth.

Then one day, an infant born two days ago is condemned, making it difficult to believe the divine will that only sinners become hellbound.

‘The Munsters’. Rob Zombie gives first look.

With Halloween fast approaching Rob Zombie shows the first pictures of ‘The Munsters’

This goes to confirm that the stars of Rob’s next venture are Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa Munster.
Rob Zombie confirmed on the 7th June On June 7, Zombie announced that he would be writing and helming the film based on the ’60s sitcom about a family of friendly monsters, and revealed that he will be constructing all of Mockingbird Lane. The film follows a family of benign monsters who relocate from Transylvania to the American suburbs.
Not a huge amount of is known about the film yet but Rob is keeping everyone up to date on his Instagram account, including a couple of teasing pictures of what the characters may be wearing.

Rob is better know for his horror films such as The Devils Rejects, Halloween and 3 from hell so the question is how dark will ‘The Munsters’ be as it was a family comedy show and how well will it work as a film. Can it do the same as was done with ‘The Adams Family‘?
The Munsters is an American sitcom depicting the home life of a family of benign monsters. The series starred Fred Gwynne as Frankenstein’s monster and head-of-the-household Herman Munster; Yvonne De Carlo as his wife Lily; Al Lewis as Lily’s father, Grandpa, the somewhat over-the-hill vampire Count Dracula who longs for the “good old days” in Transylvania; Beverley Owen (later replaced by Pat Priest) as their teenage niece Marilyn, who was attractive by conventional standards but the “ugly duckling” of the family; and Butch Patrick as their werewolfish son Eddie.
Produced by the creators of Leave It to Beaver, the series was a satire of American suburban life, as well as both traditional monster movies and the wholesome family fare of the era. It achieved higher Nielsen ratings than the similarly macabre-themed The Addams Family, which aired concurrently on ABC.
In 1965, The Munsters was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series but lost to The Rogues. In the 21st century it received several TV Land Award nominations, including one for Most Uninsurable Driver (Herman Munster).
The series originally aired on Thursday at 7:30 pm on CBS from September 24, 1964, to May 12, 1966. Seventy episodes were produced. It was cancelled after ratings dropped to a series low due to competition from ABC’s Batman. Butch Patrick said, “I think ‘Batman’ was to blame. ‘Batman’ just came along and took our ratings away.” But The Munsters found a large audience in syndication

Peacemaker trailer and premiere revealed at DC Fandome

John Cena is seeking peace at any cost in the first trailer for Peacemaker. The trailer, was released at DC Fandome and the the eight-episode HBO Max series will premiere on Jan. 13, 2022.

Cena returns to the role of Christopher “Peacemaker” Marks after playing the character in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad earlier this year. Gunn wrote all eight episodes and directed five.

Peacemaker‘s cast includes Danielle Brooks (Adebayo), Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) Steve Agee (Economos), Freddie Stroma (Vigilante), Chukwudi Iwuji (Murn) and Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith, a man who was referenced in The Suicide Squad and is known for treating his son with (very) tough love.

The darkest and most violent cinematic outing yet for the Caped Crusader,

The first full trailer for “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson debuted on Saturday during the DC Fandome virtual fan event. As you will see from the trailer below it reveals a film that is noticeably the darkest manifestation yet of the Caped Crusader.
In a dark, gloomy Gotham City, awash with rain and murkiness, Pattinson’s Batman, attacks his enemies with the violence and sheer brutality that past versions have failed to depict.

Colin Farrell is utterly unrecognisable as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin. Unlike the Danny De Vito characterisation which was not a million miles from that of Burgess Meredith in the Adam West Batman TV series, Farrell’s Penguin is not a cartoon interpretation. Farrell has said he’s in only “five or six” scenes in the film, but his transformation in The Batman is outside the box.

“The Batman” is the first interpretation to showcase  Catwoman’s (Zoë Kravitz) introduction to the franchise, the feline character was afterall one of the most important people in Batman’s life.

“I don’t want her to be an idea, you know, I want her to be a real human being in a real situation in a real city trying to survive and reacting to her own pain,” Kravitz said about the character during the Fandome panel with Reeves and Pattinson.

Robert Bathurst says: “People say Doctor Who is science fiction. Fiction? No it’s all real, and it’s as scary to do as it looks. Great to be part of it.”

Thaddea Graham says: “The whole cast/ crew welcomed me with open arms into the iconic Doctor Who family of which it is an absolute privilege to be part of. It’s a real honour to share the magic of this universe with them and, of course, our wonderful audience this October!”

Blake Harrison says: “It’s a pleasure to be a part of this huge show that has such a passionate fan base! I hope all the Doctor Who fans enjoy the new series and my role in it.”

My son loves the show and as long as he gives me his seal of approval I’ll know I’ve done it justice!”

Sara Powell says: “A role in Doctor Who is top of any actors wish list. To say I leapt at the chance is something of an understatement. Working with Jodie Whittaker – an iconic Doctor and actor – was also on my list. She was a legend. As were the cast and crew: indoors, outdoors, in winter, in Wales in the rain and mud, everyone wearing masks and being tested every 5 minutes: I loved stepping onto their ship and riding with them for a while.”

Annabel Scholey says: “I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the 13th series of Doctor Who. It was a lot of fun to film and I enjoyed every minute I spent with the amazing cast and crew…Halloween will be that little bit more spooky this year!”

Gerald Kyd says: “I absolutely adored being a part of such an iconic show. There’s nothing like it. The history, the stories, the utter devotion of the fanbase. I am honoured to now count Doctor Who as a credit. Oh, and the highlight amongst highlights was working with the wonderful, hilarious and irrepressible Jodie Whittaker.”

Penelope McGhie says: “Doctor Who was a total joy to work on. Everyone was so welcoming and generous that I really felt part of the team. Having watched the show from behind the sofa over fifty years ago, and then again with our daughter when the series was revived, I can’t believe how lucky I am to be part of the adventure!”

Doctor Who is a BBC Studios production for BBC One and a BBC America co-production. BBC Studios are the international distributors for Doctor Who.

Common joins cast of Wool for AppleTV+

American rapper Common has signed onto the increasingly impressive cast of Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama series Wool.

Wool is based on Hugh Howey’s best-selling trilogy of novels set in a future dystopia where a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep, where they believe they’re protected from from a toxic atmosphere.

The John Wick: Chapter 2 actor and Grammy-winning rapper will play Sims, the silo’s head of judicial security.

He joins previously announced cast members Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Fallout), Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), Rashida Jones (The Office) and David Oyelowo (Selma).

Will Poulter confirmed to play Adam Warlock in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 writer and director James Gunn tweeted “Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter, he’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks.” on Monday.
Will Poulter is set to play Adam Warlock, who is considered one of the strongest of Marvels Superheroes. Will’s debut film was in 2007 when he was in ‘Son of Rambow’.  He is probably better known for playing Gally in ‘Maze Runner’ Trilogy and Bridger in ‘The Revenant’.
The character was first introduced in the late 1960s/early 1970s, created in a specialized cocoon to be, effectively, the perfect human. His powers — flight, super-strength, regeneration, energy manipulation — are comprehensive and rival the most powerful Marvel characters ever created.
Much of Adam Warlock’s comic book history was tied up with the Infinity Gems (called Infinity Stones in the MCU), especially the Soul Gem — but given the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” it’s unclear how much they would factor into “Guardians Vol. 3.” Another popular comic book storyline involves Adam Warlock’s transformation into the Magus, an insane and dangerously powerful creature — which brought the Guardians of the Galaxy into the orbit of Kang the Conqueror, one of the newly established Big Bads of the MCU (as played by Jonathan Majors).

The Legend of Vox Machina premiere date

Amazon Prime Video debuted the sweeping opening title sequence for The Legend of Vox Machina, an adult animated fantasy-adventure series slated to launch on February 4, 2022 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. This sneak peek—which also included a live read of a scene from the first episode—was shared with fans as part of a virtual New York Comic Con panel with the founders and cast of Critical Role, who also serve as executive producers on the series.

About The Legend of Vox Machina:
Based on the beloved characters and adventures of Critical Role’s first livestreamed tabletop role-playing game (RPG) campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated fantasy-adventure series for adults that follows Vox Machina, a band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling. In a desperate attempt to pay off their mounting bar tab, these unlikely heroes end up on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. From a sinister necromancer to a powerful curse, the group confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond.

The Legend of Vox Machina is a production of Amazon Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse for Amazon Prime Video. The series stars Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (Final Fantasy XIV), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Matthew Mercer (Overwatch), Marisha Ray (Final Fantasy XV), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers). The Critical Role cast also serves as executive producers alongside Brandon Auman (Star Wars: Resistance) and Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse).

Critical Role is a story-driven media company created by a group of nerdy-ass voice actors that started out sitting around a table together as friends to create epic stories. In 2019, they launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce a 22-minute animated special based on the characters and adventures of Vox Machina, Critical Role’s original livestreamed tabletop RPG campaign. They met their initial funding goal within minutes, and thanks to their passionate fanbase, the campaign continued to gain traction, raising more than $11.3 million and becoming one of the most funded Film & Video projects in Kickstarter history. The fan support allowed Critical Role to expand the special into a 10-episode season. When Amazon Studios picked up the series, it built on that record-breaking support by ordering an additional 14 episodes, bringing the total number of episodes to 24 across two seasons, which will stream exclusively on Prime Video.

The Expanse release new trailer for final season

The Expanse has come a long way. Picked up by Amazon for the fourth season following its cancellation by Syfy, the series was promptly renewed for a fifth and then a sixth and final season on the streaming service.
Deadline report that at New York Comic Con Friday, The Expanse star Dominique Tipper, who portrays Naomi Nagata on the sci-fi drama, opens the panel with a greeting for fans and introduces the cast. On the panel are: Steven Strait (James Holden), Wes Chatham (Amos Burton), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Chrisjen Avasarala), Nadine Nicole (Clarissa Mao), and Cara Gee (Camina Drummer), along with showrunner Naren Shankar, and The Expanse writers and book authors Ty Franck, and Daniel Abraham.
After the trailer premiere, Tipper asks the creators how they feel about the show coming to a close.
“It’s been a long project and it’s gratifying to see how it turned out,” said Abraham. Adds Shankar, “It chokes me up. I think that tells you something, about where we’ve been and where we’re going.”
Season five left off as the MCRN Barkeith transits a ring gate en route to Laconia, a world beyond the ring space. The entities that destroyed the Ring Builders begin to awaken and devour the ship. But in the Season 6 trailer, Earth, Mars and the Belts are about to go to war for real. Franck talked about the writing process and the mindset behind why this upcoming season will be more intense than any other before it.
“From the beginning we had to write every script so that there was no advantage in it,” Franck said. “We just had to tell the story and we were there to tell, and keep our foot on the gas pedal the whole way.”
There will only be six episodes this season and Tipper explained that episode one and episode six were filmed together with the later “supersized episode” being 65 minutes in length.  Shankar expounds further stating, “We always knew we wanted it to end big. There’s a lot that happens in that episode. And we, by shooting it early, gave us a chance to actually finish all the visual effects.”
Fans want to know when will the sixth and final season of The Expanse will be dropping? During the panel, Tipper announces the season premiere date is December 10, 2021.
Check out the trailer for the new season of The Expanse above and watch the first-look video below to find out what you can expect from the sci-fi drama’s heroes and villains this season.
